The Battle for God’s Presence
Today, we’re diving into one of the most challenging values in our Five-Star Charge: War.
Though God’s presence is freely available to us, there is a spiritual battle to access and remain in it. The enemy works relentlessly to dull our hunger for God, distract us from prayer, and make our hearts indifferent to His Word. This battle calls us to discipline ourselves daily and fight for the closeness and strength found in God’s presence.
The Spiritual Discipline of War
The Apostle Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 about this need for discipline, likening our journey to a race that requires endurance and focus:
“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.”
As believers, we are called to run with purpose, fighting distractions and engaging in the disciplines that draw us near to God. Prayer, Bible study, worship, and fasting equip us to stand firm against the forces that would weaken our faith.
Fighting the Good Fight
In Grace Ops, waging war for God’s presence means:
Setting aside time each day for prayer and His Word, even when distractions arise.
Hungering for God above all else, nurturing our faith through worship and fasting.
Pushing back against complacency, embracing the truth that staying close to God requires intentionality and discipline.
